Yuiba Shin (legal name Jee Won Shin) is a coloratura soprano originally from Daegu, South  Korea. In addition to her performing career, she currently serves as an Adjunct Voice Professor  at Lone Star College–Montgomery. She holds a Bachelor of Music from Keimyung University, a  Master of Music in Vocal Performance from New York University, an Advanced Certificate  from CUNY Queens College, an Artist Diploma from SUNY Purchase College, and a Doctor of  Musical Arts in Vocal Performance from Louisiana State University. 

Her recent performance highlights include the title role of Pedro in The Christmas Gift, presented  by Opera Mississippi, and La Fée in Pauline Viardot’s Cendrillon, presented by the Queens  Summer Vocal Institute (QSVI)u in an English-language production with spoken dialogue. Her  additional operatic credits include Aloès in Chabrier’s L’Étoile, Adele in Johann Strauss II’s Die  Fledermaus, La Fée in Massenet’s Cendrillon, Serpina in Pergolesi’s La serva padrona, and  Suor Genovieffa and Suor Dolcina in Puccini’s Suor Angelica. Her operatic scene credits include  Lucia in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor, Blonde in Mozart’s Die Entführung aus dem Serail,  Papagena in Die Zauberflöte, Adina in Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore, Susanna in Le nozze di  Figaro, and Despina in Così fan tutte. 

Based in both Texas and Louisiana, Yuiba maintains an active career as a performer and  educator. As a cancer survivor, she brings resilience, gratitude, and a deep appreciation for the  transformative power of music to her work. She is passionate about sharing her love of music  through both performance and teaching. She is honored to make her debut with Opera in the  Heights and is deeply grateful for the opportunity to be part of this production.
