Aidan Smerud

A recent graduate of the University of Houston’s Doctor of Musical Arts program, Aidan Smerud is an active performer in the Houston area, appearing regularly with sacred ensembles, universities, and professional opera and musical theatre companies. He most recently performed with Opera in the Heights as Raimondo in Lucia di Lammermoor and Sparafucile in Rigoletto.

In addition to his performing career, Aidan serves as Director of the School of Fine Arts at West University Methodist Church, where he oversees programming, faculty, and community engagement initiatives. He also teaches at the University of Houston and Lone Star College, instructing courses in musicology and vocal studies, while maintaining a growing private voice studio. His teaching and administrative work are grounded in a commitment to artistic excellence, vocal health, and meaningful musical experiences for students of all ages.

Among his favorite performing credits are Dr. Dulcamara in L’elisir d’amore, Rucker Lattimore in Cold Sassy Tree, and Emile deBecque in South Pacific, roles that reflect his appreciation for character-driven repertoire across opera and musical theatre.
