HOUSTON, TX (October 21, 2013)

Opera in the Heights presents Don Pasquale by Gaetano Donizetti in its second production of the season. Marvel at the voices and laugh at Don Pasquale as he makes a fool of himself for love! Performances will be from November 15 – 24 at Lambert Hall in the Houston Heights.

When Don Pasquale’s nephew Ernesto refuses his uncle’s selection of a bride, Pasquale decides to disinherit him and produce another heir to his fortune himself. When the old bachelor begins searching for a young wife, Ernesto, his girlfriend Norina, and Don Pasquale’s friend Dr. Malatesta conspire to teach Don Pasquale a lesson and to thwart his efforts to marry. So begins this comic opera which is full of fun and the incomparably tuneful and evocative music of Donizetti, a master of the bel canto style.

“Stefano de Peppo returns to Opera in the Heights to play Don Pasquale, his signature role, leading a stellar cast of young singers in this delightful comedy,” said Artistic Director Enrique Carreón-Robledo.  Oh! audiences will remember Mr. de Peppo as Sgt. Sulpice, the “Father” of the regiment, in La fille du régiment in 2011.

Julia Engel and Katie Dixon will share the lead role of Norina in this company’s double cast system.

Eric Bowden will be Ernesto in all performances while Dr. Malatesta will be portrayed by Wesley Landry and Octavio Moreno.

Keturah Stickann debuts as Don Pasquale’s stage director, C. Vincent Fuller is the chorus master, Rachel Smith is the set designer, Dena Scheh designs the costumes, and the stage lighting is done by Jim Elliott.
