Stefanos Koroneos, Sacristano, is welcomed back to OH after a wonderful debut as Escamillo in Carmen and as the scheming Prince de Bouillon in Adriana Lecouvreur. He will make his Metropolitan Opera debut as Dmitri in Prokofiev’s The Gambler in April 2008, and he will sing his first role at La Scala in the 08-09 season as Elmiro in Rossini’s Otello. The young bass baritone was born in Athens, then moved to Milan, Italy to study first at the G. Verdi Conservatory, then with the baritones K. Ego and O. Borgonovo, and later at the Rossini Opera Academy. Last year he moved to New York. He made his debut in La Bohème at the Staatstheater in Freiburg (Germany) singing the role of Schaunard. Since then he has performed in Italy (Milan, Lucca, Ravenna, Parma, Bussetto, Modena, Livorno, etc.), Germany, Russia, Greece, Korea, Malta, and the USA. He has worked with conductors such as Richard Bonynge and Jose Cura and directors such as Franco Zeffirelli. Recordings include I Vespri Siciliani (Verdi Festival Bussetto), The Resurrection (performance with Monserrat Caballe), both on Rai Trade, and three operas for Sky International Classic Chanel Competition in New York.
