Michael Leone, Sciarrone & Jailer, is a longtime chorus member of OH, substitute surtitle operator, surtitle translator (Adriana Lecouvreur), and the Guard in fall of 2006’s Rigoletto. Mr. Leone studied accordion, violin, and piano as a child. He first discovered opera as a teenager and was immediately hooked. He is in his third season as a chorus member of Opera in the Heights, having come on board less than four weeks before the 2005-06 season’s opening performances of Il Trovatore. He surprised everyone, not least of all himself, by learning the extensive baritone choral contributions to that opera in less than a week. He began as a bass-baritone, but sang second tenor in the Jan/Feb 2006 Norma performances at OH. Since then his voice teacher, Glen Wester of San Jacinto College, has noted that he is moving more in the direction of being a pure baritone. He also appeared in Houston Ebony Opera Guild’s summer performances of Carmen in August of 2006 and Madama Butterfly in 2007.
