Douglin Murray Schmidt*, Scarpia, has performed a broad range of baritone roles. For the newly founded Jacksonville Lyric Opera he most recently sang Marcello in La Bohème and Count Danilo in The Merry Widow. In the summer of ’07, Mr. Schmidt triumphed as Figaro in The Barber of Seville for the Belleayre Music Festival. At this upstate New York festival in ’06 he sang Scarpia in Tosca and in ’05 the title role in Rigoletto. In 2006, Schmidt sang the Don in Don Giovanni for Connecticut Lyric Opera and Tonio in I Pagliacci in back to back productions for Verismo Opera of New Jersey and Opera Company of Brooklyn. For Lyric Opera of San Diego, Douglin has performed roles including The Pirate King in The Pirates of Penzance, Dick Deadeye in H.M.S. Pinafore, Giuseppe in The Gondoliers and Maximilian in Candide. Wichita Grand Opera was Douglin Murray’s venue for Escamillo in Carmen in ’03. In Kansas City, he performed as Pooh Bah in The Mikado, Il Conte in Il matrimonio segreto (Civic Opera of KC), Marcello in La Bohème, Frank in Edgar and Scarpia in Tosca (KC Puccini Festival). His other Midwest roles have included Germont in La Traviata, Peter in Hansel and Gretel, Michele in Il Tabarro and Schaunard in La Bohème. Douglin currently resides in Astoria, NY.
