Alex Jaya, Shepherd, returns to OH after having sung with the children’s chorus in Carmen. His first opera, at age 9, was the title role in Amahl and the Night Visitors at Texas Southern University. He sang with the Houston Grand Opera children's chorus in several productions including Boris Godunov and Carmen. He earned two cover roles in HGO’s The Cunning Little Vixen. Alex featured prominently in the world premiere of The Refuge (Christopher Theofandis/Leah Lax). He sang for The Chopin Society of Houston and has performed for Houston Young Artist's Concert many times as well as the Houston Children's Chorus. He has sung solo throughout Houston on numerous stages including Methodist Hospital, Miller Outdoor Theatre, Ovations, Stude Hall, TUTS, and others. Among the songs he has mastered are: Ave Maria, Chichester Psalms, Exultate Jubilate, A Vucchella, and Alleluja. Alex was invited to audition for Radio Disney's RD Frequency, and became a cast member. His music teacher, Elena Fray, does not want pop or country & western to ruin his voice as Alex quickly learned when he had to gracefully bow out of the Best Country Western Singer competition in January. Even though Alex is also a gifted actor, singing has dominated his time of late.
