“Opera: What’s All the Noise About?”
This fun and informative program provides elementary school students a brief introduction to opera. Thanks to funding from ExxonMobil and Bank of America, the programs are free to a limited number of schools each year.
The program is designed for elementary school classrooms, usually 25 to 30 students, that lasts thirty to forty-five minutes depending on the school's bell schedule. A male and a female singer perform and talk with students about the career of a professional performer and conduct a lively question / answer session through activity sheets. No teacher training is required. Scheduleing requires two programs back to back for $500 and $250 for any additional program in which short breaks are provided for the singers.
Young Audiences Houston
Opera in the Heights presents two programs in schools through Young Audiences Houston. The 45-minute workshop "Introduction to Opera and to La Bohème" features two singers telling about opera in general and singing one piece each from La Bohèm. The 45-minute version of La Bohème presents four singers and a narrator performing the major arias, duets and ensembles. These programs are scheduled through Young Audiences Houston.
