Opera in the Heights (Oh!), Houston, Texas will hold auditions in New York City for the 2010 – 2011 and 2011 - 2012 seasons on MONDAY December 7th, and TUESDAY, December 8th 2009 at Nola Studios located at 250 West 54th Street in all voice categories. Opera in the Heights has the reputation as a leading regional opera. company in the United States in the development of young Artists with definite career potential and is on the recommended list of the Metropolitan Opera as an Opera company for career development. Recent Oh! Alumni have been engaged at the Metropolitan Opera, N.Y.C Opera and leading opera companies throughout the U.S. and Europe. Repertoire over the next two seasons will include Tales of Hoffman, Die Fledermaus (German with English dialogue), Don Carlo, The Pearl Fishers. Faust, Cosi Fan Tutte, Norma, Andrea Chenier.

There are either six or eight performances of each production. Lead roles are double cast, each lead artist singing either three or four performances
Over a two or three week period. Artists in Secondary lead roles and all Comprimario roles sing All performances. The rehearsal period is approximately 14 - 16 days.  All performances are with orchestra in the original language. Auditions are open to all singers whether they are represented by Artist management or not. In respect of the usual large response and scheduling demands, it is requested that individual Artist Representatives submit not more than six of their artists for these Auditions. The interest focuses on all voice categories. The company is a showcase for the development of young Artists demonstrating strong potential for a professional career, thus, the standards are quite high.

Season of four productions commence in Sept.and end in April. The first rehearsals originate in early September. Performances are in late Sept. – early Oct. late Oct., and early Nov., late Jan. - early Feb. and late Mar. early April ....

2010 NOVEMBER -FLEDERMAUS: (Eisenstein and Alfred)
2011 SPRING - DON CARLO: (4 ACT VERSION) – Don Carlo, Rodrigo, Eboli, Phillip, Inquisitor
SEPT 2011 – FAUST – Faust, Marguerite, Méphistophélès, Valentine, Siebel
OCT 2011 – COSI FAN TUTTE – Fiordiligi, Dorabella, Ferrando, Guglielmo, Don Alfonso
JAN 2012 – NORMA – NORMA, Adalgisa, Pollione, Oroveso
MAR 2012 – ANDREA CHENIER – Andrea Chenier, Maddelena, Gerard, Roucher

The deadline to submit applications is November 1, 2009. All casting will be finalized and engaged artists notified by the end of February 2010.

Please note: If artists prefer to audition in Houston, Texas, auditions will be held in Houston on Nov. 27th and 28th, 2009. There is a $30 dollar audition fee payable at the time of your audition. An accompanist is provided or you may bring your own.
